## Özet

**The protocol signing ceremony for the 'First Thousand Days of Life and Developing Parents Project', to be implemented in collaboration with Üsküdar Üniversitesi, Üsküdar District Governorship, and Üsküdar District Health Directorate, was held. The Project, created by the Department of Child Development at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, offers guidance services to help improve the knowledge and skills of parents within Üsküdar district who are expecting a baby or have a child younger than two years old, in child development and care.  **

The protocol signing ceremony, attended by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar District Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek, Üsküdar District Health Director Dr. Yusuf Taşçı, Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Faculty of Health Sciences Child Development Department Head Prof. Dr. Nurper Ülküer, and lecturers from the Child Development department, took place at the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Main Campus Senate Meeting Hall.

## **Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan; “The project is not of today, but of the future”**

Emphasizing the future impact of the developed project, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said; “If this project becomes widespread and more awareness and consciousness are created, it will be included in education. For example, the Ministry of Health has currently written all theoretical information regarding the psychosocial development of children aged 0-5, such as vaccine tracking. However, it cannot be implemented. Because the people who will implement it do not know this, they are not trained. This means that effort has been put into this subject, it has been written, but only worked on theoretically. They need to be made current and practical, and used in matters related to maternal and child health. The ‘First Thousand Days of Life and Developing Parents Project’ will generate significant concrete information and data on this subject. Those who determine child health policy will shape it according to this data. It seems that this will be general in the next 10 years. In fact, this project is not a project of today, but of the future. I thank our instructors for this revision and their efforts.”

## **District Governor Demiryürek; “Üsküdar Üniversitesi provides us with very valuable contributions in implementing projects with discipline”**

Expressing his satisfaction with the work carried out in cooperation with Üsküdar Üniversitesi and Üsküdar District Governorship, Üsküdar District Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek said; “At the beginning of a new cooperation, I am happy to be with this wonderful team, and I respectfully greet you all. We have a really close field collaboration with Üsküdar Üniversitesi. There are projects we have carried out together in previous years or are currently carrying out in the field. Thank you, and your valuable instructors. We attach great importance to and find very valuable the studies carried out by universities. Universities are one of the most important ways to prevent people who do the same job from falling into the trap of 'field blindness,' where they fail to identify deficiencies, shortcomings, and erroneous work after a while. The guidance of scientific institutions remains a guide for you. Üsküdar Üniversitesi, thankfully, is truly both willing to do its job well and provides us with very valuable contributions in implementing projects with discipline.”

## **Prof. Dr. Nurper Ülküer; “We intend to go to other provinces and districts as well, our journey is long”**

Presenting the project and providing information about the studies, Prof. Dr. Nurper Ülküer said; “Today is a very exciting day for Üsküdar Üniversitesi and the Child Development Department. We are proud to be able to launch a project as desired by our esteemed rector, who has always valued us greatly. This was not the first; we actually had other small projects, but I think this is also the first step of a very long-term project, a study. This project will continue until June, but with the experiences and feedback we gather from it, we believe it will be a project that we can implement not only in 4 Family Health Centers but perhaps in all Family Health Centers in the Üsküdar district, and even in Healthy Life Centers. We intend to go to other provinces and districts as well, our journey is long.”

## **Ülküer; “The first thousand days are the most important period of life”**

Highlighting the process of idea generation and the underlying thoughts in the project, Prof. Dr. Nurper Ülküer said; “I want to start by talking about the project’s logo. We named the project GE-Bİ Developing Parents. So, why did we give it such a name? We say, know development. The First Thousand Days of Life and Developing Parents Project covers the first thousand days, starting from prenatal period until the second year, which is the most important period of life. This project was created by questioning what needs to be done to make the relationship between parents and babies a healthier, more developmental process during this period, and what we, as child development specialists, should do here, thinking ‘how can we provide support to those who serve parents, to primary caregivers?’”

## **Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin; “It will be a very beneficial project for both science and education”**

Expressing his gratitude for the interest and support shown for the project, Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin said; “As is the case all over the world, our main goal in all the information produced in universities, the patents and research that emerge, is to share this with society and industry. I thank our Rector for this joint project, which we also received support for. I believe it will be a very beneficial project for both science and education.”

## **Dr. Yusuf Taşçı; “We are delighted to be a partner in this project”**

Üsküdar District Health Director Dr. Yusuf Taş said; “District Health Directorates are routinely the first institutions parents apply to when they are sick. Therefore, these institutions should be the most accessible. People come to these institutions even just for height and weight measurements. For this reason, we are very happy to be a part of this project. We are including Doğancı and Zeynep Kamil Family Health Centers in this project. Of course, this is just the beginning. Our goal will be to expand this project to all hospitals. We are delighted to be a partner in this project. I thank everyone involved in this project.”

Following the opening speeches and project presentation, the signing ceremony was held. The ceremony concluded with a group photo.
