Sur stated; “In our contact with the Director, bless him, he understood the situation and paved the way for this, as he is an educator who provides great support to education. The chief physicians of the two hospitals he indicated truly and genuinely provided us with great support in overcoming many obstacles, big and small. Without the Director's will, the technical support of our chief physicians who supported it, and our instructors who supported them, our fourth-year medical faculty students would not have reached the level of satisfaction with the education they receive today. From this perspective, as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, I first of all thank you all very much for your support. We are fully aware of what a wonderful support this is. Without ever abusing this support, our greatest aspiration is to establish it sustainably and continue this collaboration for many years. I am sure you will also be happy to see how well our young graduates are trained when they perhaps work as doctors in your institutions as well," he said. ## ![](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2023/01/26/800/img-9479-1-1.JPG) ## **Prof. Dr. Necdet Sağlam: “It is very important for physicians to be trained by seeing patients”** Prof. Dr. Necdet Sağlam, Chief Physician of Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital, said; “As Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital, we are a large hospital on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, serving the public and operating with the most diverse patient density. Following our esteemed director's guidance and Nevzat Hodja's request, when our esteemed dean, vice-rectors, and heads of departments visited us, we sat down and discussed how we could assist them. We held meetings with our department heads, chairs, and administrative supervisors. Later, they completed technical studies on how they would receive support from us by holding one-on-one meetings. Afterwards, we continue to provide educational support with our instructors and their specialists, suitable for our working environment and clinics. Education is truly important. It is very important for physicians to be trained by seeing patients and receiving clinical support," he said. ## ![](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2023/01/26/800/img-9500-1.JPG) ## **Dr. Semra Baripoğlu: “Practice is very important”** Psychiatrist Dr. Semra Baripoğlu, Deputy Chief Physician of NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, said; “On behalf of my own institution, I thank you all very much for your contributions to our students. A group also completed their psychology internship at our hospital. During internships, direct interaction with patients, that observation, that experience, is very important for them. Practice is very important. I am sure they are experiencing the same excitement under your supervision in other fields as well," she stated. ## ![](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2023/01/26/800/img-9511-1.JPG) ## **Prof. Dr. Cem Çelik: “We will try to assist students in practice”** Prof. Dr. Cem Çelik from Bahçeci Clinic said; “As Bahçeci Clinic, we are truly trying to support the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Faculty of Medicine. I hope that in the coming period, we will also try to assist students in routine practice within our own clinic. I believe we will continue with this kind of support," he said. ## ![](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2023/01/26/800/img-9546.JPG) ## **Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “Our current students are more fortunate than us”** Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, drawing attention to the importance they attach in principle to the quality education of students, said; “For us, the fourth year was a critical period. We attach great importance in principle to the quality education of our students. Medical education, from my perspective, is a responsible education. If the students we educate administer wrong treatment, we feel responsible for that. Therefore, we want to train our young colleagues well, enable them to see cases, open doors for them, and offer them an environment of opportunity. For this, our hospitals and directorate in Ümraniye and Sancaktepe acted very constructively in this regard. I especially thank them. Our students are very satisfied. When our dean from Cerrahpaşa visited us, he said, ‘Should we perhaps do this here too?’ We established a student assistantship system. Each group has one student assistant. They give us weekly reports. How are the lessons going, what's happening? We officially insured them. It's a system that processes information like 'how is the utilization status.' The reporting is going very well. Haydar Hodja also sent the results of the last group. There is better feedback than we expected. There was also a three-week period at NP. Pediatrics, general surgery, internal medicine, all saw important cases. They can ask their instructors, they can talk. In assistantship training, we couldn't learn anything from the instructors. We couldn't even learn from the chief resident. We learned from the senior resident. Our current students are more fortunate. They can directly ask questions to instructors and specialists. They can see cases together. Hopefully, this system we have established will be sustainable," he stated. ## ![](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2023/01/26/800/img-9566.JPG) ## **Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu: “Anyone can be a doctor, but not everyone can be a physician”** Istanbul Provincial Health Director Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, emphasizing that they provide not just instruction but also education to students, said; “Anyone can be a doctor. I teach ethics courses at Health Sciences University. Anyone can be a doctor, but not everyone can be a physician. For medicine, rules and ethical values were essentially established in the 5th century BC. One of the most important of these is that medicine has been defined as both the leader and the exemplary person of society. People will entrust their lives, their bodies, to someone they don't know at all. They must be trustworthy, they must be exemplary. In essence, we are not just teaching; we are educating you. While educating, we need to do something very important: we need to be an example. We need to be an example as instructors, as an institution, as behavior, as a university, and as a directorate, so that you become physicians. I truly congratulate all of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, especially Nevzat Hodja, because for the first time, we have encountered a university that thanks a hospital group and a directorate, which have provided internship opportunities to many universities and educational institutions for years, with such a courteous dinner, showing exemplary behavior and being an exemplary university. Therefore, I thank you first. There are many scientists, many universities, many public administrators, many politicians, many businesspeople in this country, but this country needs many exemplary people. It needs exemplary universities. It needs exemplary bureaucrats," he said.
