**The management of our emotions, which hold an important place in our lives, is also crucial. Our emotions can be decisive in many areas, from the most important decisions we make in life to our daily choices. So, how will we manage our emotions?**

Towards the end of the 90s, a revolution occurred in psychological sciences. With this revolution, emotions began to be treated as a scientific category. Previously, the subject of emotion was seen as a matter for poets, artists, and people who valued spiritual things. Emotion was known not to be a scientific category because there was no evidence. In the 90s, evidence emerged. And it was a Portuguese-born neuroscientist named Antonio Damasio who compiled this evidence into written books and published them in America.

Neuroscientist Antonio Damasio wrote a book on this topic titled “Descartes’ Error.” What did Descartes say? ‘I think, therefore I am. Everything is reason. Everything outside of reason is outside the realm of science.’ The Age of Enlightenment and positivism began this way. This discovery was a discovery that also changed positive science. What is there in positivism? When you say evidence, there are concrete things. Experiment and observation are concrete things. But now, emotions have also entered this concrete domain.

**Two case examples related to emotions**

There are Gage and Elliot cases related to emotions that I emphasize from time to time. These cases have entered the literature. The first is the Gage case in the 1850s. This talented ironworker suffers a horrific accident one day. In the event, also known in history as the American Iron Rod Case, a 110-centimeter iron rod enters through his eye and gets lodged in the frontal lobe of his brain. The rod is removed, but the frontal lobe of the brain is damaged. After a while, behavioral changes appear in Gage. The previously meticulous and careful person is gone, replaced by someone sloppy, neglecting his work, talking to himself, making absurd movements, and losing his sense of responsibility. In other words, not only his emotions but also his personality changed. This means that the frontal lobe of the brain also regulates our emotions. When this area is damaged, both emotions and behaviors change.

The tangerine-sized tumor in the brain was causing everything

The Elliot case, on the other hand, occurred in the 90s. Elliot is a very successful lawyer. At around 40, he has a wealthy, married, beautiful life. Around his 40s, his personality begins to change. He goes to work late, exhibits irresponsible behavior. He makes eccentric moves in public. After a while, he divorces his wife. One day, an MRI is taken due to a complaint he experienced. The MRI reveals a tangerine-sized tumor in the frontal lobe of his brain. The tumor is surgically removed. After the surgery, some tests are performed. Tests that differentiate between emotion and thought. Among these tests are also tests that measure his emotions. Pictures of burned people, pictures of his mother are shown. In a normal person's brain, when these pictures are seen, the areas related to emotions immediately become active. However, in Elliot, these regions never become active. He feels no emotion at all. There is no emotional response in the brain.

**We must learn to multiply our emotional capital**

The neuroscience of emotions, popularly known as “emotional intelligence,” proves that emotions are measurable. The neuroscience of emotions is included in resource management because we can measure and manage emotions. Emotional capital can be multiplied. These capitals are not innate. We acquire them later, but we are born with the ability to acquire, with the ability to grow resources. If we develop this, a related network forms in our brain. Chemical connections are formed, and the brain invests in it. If you don't, it atrophies.

**Emotions should be managed like a resource**

If we think of emotions in the logic of resource management, what does an investor do, for example? First, they try to expand their pool. They try to multiply their money. What do they do? They increase income, use expenses carefully. After a while, the pool grows. They make new investments, and the pool grows even larger. But they make investments that have a return. A smart manager goes bankrupt if they make investments without a return.

**We will increase our capacity for love**

First, there will be a feeling of love within us. We will learn to feel love for trees, birds, insects, the tea we drink, everything. We will teach this to our children too. After becoming rich in love, they will be generous with love. But first, we need to increase our capacity for love. The way to do this is a positive approach to problems.

If we approach the problems we face positively, the problems open themselves up to us. If we don't approach them positively, they close themselves off. What happens this time? Fear and avoidance begin within us instead of love and trust. When there is love, fear decreases and trust increases. First, we will seek ways to increase our emotions.

**We will give the child feelings of trust and love**

To increase emotions in children, we will give the child feelings of trust and love. The child will become autonomous and achieve things. As they achieve, we will approve, and as we approve, the child's self-confidence will grow, and thus they will develop. Both the 0-3 age period and adolescence are periods when the brain is blooming. In spring, flowers suddenly bloom within a few weeks, and trees turn green. The same thing happens in our brain during the 0-3 age period and adolescence. Similarly, there are synaptic chemical bursts and growths. Then we prune it. We prune our brain. This is called synaptic pruning, and thus our personality is formed.

**We learn emotional richness in the family**

If a child receives love from their parents, they feel safe. When they feel safe, emotional exchange with the mother begins. Emotional literacy begins. Empati begins, and then the input of love increases. The part of our brain that manages emotions develops through social interaction; it doesn't happen on its own.

Humans learn emotional richness from the family. They learn from their environment, close ones, society, and culture. The brain matures, develops, and then learns to manage this intelligently. If you have a purpose in your love, if you have a love ego ideal, you direct your love correctly, but love is your sacred. The brain starts to operate emotions accordingly. That's why we will create an emotion pyramid. We will place abstract emotions at the very top.
