**The youth announced they would not surrender to decay, and it was reported that the project aims to create a climate of identity politics in our country.**

An LGBTI+ project was launched by non-governmental organizations in 8 state universities in Ankara and 12 in Istanbul. Within the scope of the project, “students' access to human rights and the discrimination they face in universities” will be reported. Project implementers announced their aims as “the foundations for systematic university-based monitoring of LGBTI+ rights in Turkey will be laid.” The Turkish Youth Union (TGB), noting that our universities would be targeted, stated that LGBTI organizations have “taken on the task of alienation.”
An LGBTI+ project was launched in 20 state universities in two major cities by the European Union (EU) through non-governmental organizations. No statement was made by the universities regarding the matter. The project implementers, who made sponsored posts on social media accounts, are ÜniKuir Derneği and the Civil Society Development Center (SpoD), which carry out activities with EU funds. The two organizations made the following statement on their official websites regarding the “Gender Equality Mapping and Monitoring Project in the Context of LGBTI+ Rights”:
“We have started the work of our project, which is supported by the European Union and will be carried out with SPoD within the scope of the CEİDizler Grant Program. By focusing on LGBTI+ university students, we aim to conduct a comprehensive monitoring and mapping study in the thematic area of Gender Equality in the Context of LGBTI+ Rights in 20 state universities in Istanbul and Ankara, by observing the current situation of LGBTI+ students, their access to human rights, and the discrimination they face in 8 state universities in Ankara and 12 in Istanbul.

## Planned activities

“Activities to be carried out within the scope of the project: Focus group interviews to be conducted with members of state universities in Istanbul and Ankara. Legislative and curriculum review. Policy analysis.
Stakeholder analysis. Development of 2 measurement tools named LGBTI+ Rights Access Scale and Discrimination Against LGBTI+ Scale.

## Two reports will be prepared

“Following the collection of data in light of the planned analyses and prepared scales, we will prepare two reports: the Gender Equality Report in the Context of LGBTI+ Rights and the LGBTI+ Rights and Discrimination Against LGBTI+ Report in State Universities in Ankara and Istanbul. At the end of the project, data will be shared comparatively through interactive graphs and maps prepared using all data obtained from universities, and the foundations for systematic university-based monitoring of LGBTI+ rights in Turkey will be laid.”

## 'They will target our country with so-called reports'

Can Aybars, Ankara Provincial Chairman of TGB, reacting to the project, emphasized that the reports to be prepared aim to target universities in Turkey:
“We reject UniKuir Derneği's attempt to legitimize and normalize LGBTI activities in our universities with the full support of the EU. LGBTI organizations, which pretend to advocate for rights but have actually undertaken the task of alienating humanity from its nature, culture, and national values, are trying to attack Turkish youth with EU support and funds. The work carried out in our universities under the name of 'Gender Equality Mapping and Monitoring Project' is a continuation of the identity politics climate sought to be created all over the world and in our country. The resulting report has no other purpose than to monitor the alleged state of LGBTI rights and target Turkey's universities. Turkish youth will not surrender to LGBTI decay in universities.”

## ‘Main target is the family institution’

**Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Psychiatrist and Neuropsychologist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan:**

“This is a serious political movement. LGBT activism is not a medical topic. There are clubs named LGBT in major state universities in Istanbul. The reason for their membership is not that they are LGBT activists, but that they choose it as a protest area. They show their reactions against the current authority, the state, and the political authority by being there. The family institution has collapsed in the West. They want it to collapse in Turkey too. In the USA, 17 percent of those who apply to emergency services are due to domestic violence. Capitalism is decaying from within. They are trying to spread this to our country with these activities.”
Prof. Dr. Sefa Köse: “As LGBTI is promoted, it gradually becomes more widespread in society. It becomes more visible. This is a negative situation for younger generations. Because, as far as I can see, LGBTI individuals are not happy at all compared to other people. It is said that social pressure is effective in this, but the same situation exists in countries where LGBTI is now very valid, quite widespread, and freely supported. Many disorders, from depression to anxiety disorders, are more prevalent in these individuals. Of course, a person can be LGBT, but we do not support its imposition or their coming to the forefront in society with an almost aggressive attitude. It is good to conduct research in universities, but its propaganda and making society unisex are not right. This would be wrong for the mental health of societies and individuals.”
