The work, which thoroughly examines the reality of the virtual universe metaverse and digital game psychology, was published by DER Publications.

The work, edited by Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Tutgun Ünal, a faculty member at the Faculty of Communication, was published with valuable contributions from many expert authors in the field. The work, written about the metaverse and changing game culture, focuses on the possible effects and consequences of the metaverse universe.

## **Prof. Dr. Tarhan: “Pop artist Tarkan will give a concert with his avatar in the Metaverse universe”**

In the introductory article of the work, Prof. Dr. Tarhan pointed out that a virtual universe is being created with the metaverse, emphasizing the concept of 'beyond the universe'. Tarhan said; “Currently, there is physical reality, meaning the physical world, the world we live in. Now, a virtual reality has also been created. The third is science fiction. There are science fiction games. One of these games currently has 350 million players. Everyone will be able to write and create their own paradise within the framework of science fiction, design their own holographic avatar in 3D, and enter that universe with their avatar friend within this avatar, walk the streets there, and enter games. For example, pop artist Tarkan will give a concert with his avatar, and you will go there with your avatar. Of course, all of these will be entirely within virtual reality.”

## **“Those curious about the Metaverse universe can benefit from the book”**

Regarding the work, which is one of the first books published in Turkey in the field of metaverse, Tarhan particularly underlines that this new concept will affect human psychology and adds: “The book deals with the metaverse, a concept that will affect human psychology differently. This new world is a virtually created universe that also merges with physical reality. It offers individuals a separate reality, especially where games are present. There was a team working on this issue. Aylin Tutgun Ünal collaborated with this team. Everyone wrote a chapter in their own field, and we signed an important work written in Turkish on the metaverse. There are various publications on this topic, but this work stands out as the first publication to be released as a book. Those curious about the answers to questions like 'What is this topic? Where is it going? What will it ultimately bring? What are the risks?' can benefit from this book.”

## **A look at games from different disciplines…**

The book covers the metaverse journey from traditional games to digital games, the effect of avatars on self and socialization, the effects on loneliness, antisocial personality, narcissism, eating disorders, and the beneficial use of serious games and games. On the other hand, the book also examines the negative effects of games, such as their use in the recruitment process and even in education, their effects on emotional intelligence and memory, the neurobiology of games, gambling games, and tendencies from violence to suicide. Many other topics are also discussed by field experts in the book, such as the effects on children and violent tendencies, the role of the family, digital game addiction and its measurement, and digital games in the existential process.
