We are living through very precious days for our society. Coming together on these special days, such as Eid al-Adha, when we understand the value of sharing, uniting in common emotions, and being together, and the meeting of generations, is very valuable. The transfer of experiences from elder family members to younger generations is both meaningful and very beneficial for both sides. Many benefits of social learning in child development have been understood. Our extended family culture, which has continued for centuries, offers important solutions in child development**.**

The togetherness of elderly family members with the new generation provides significant contributions to keeping the brain agile and to psychological well-being.

Young people cannot use their brains efficiently and harmoniously like an orchestra during this period, meaning they can have difficulty in achieving harmony between the right and left brain. The left brain is related to logical decisions, the right brain to emotional decisions, and the prefrontal cortex is a region that acts as the connecting bridge between these two brains. This region develops more in old age. Thanks to this region, a person can make both logical decisions and think holistically.

It is observed that philosophers or individuals who constantly dream and are open to new goal-oriented experiences develop a wonderful network throughout their brains. A bird's brain has one or two connections, but a human brain has 10,000 connections. It is also known that these connections are more abundant in older individuals. For this reason, old age is also defined as the age of wisdom. People make faster, less stressed, and more accurate decisions in the light of their experiences.

**The needs of both sides converge**

The greatest asset and capital of older people is their wisdom. Therefore, consulting elders in the family and benefiting from their ideas is very valuable for younger generations. What older individuals enjoy most is being asked for their opinions. That's why grandfathers and grandchildren, grandmothers and grandchildren get along very well. This stems from the fact that one side needs to ask and learn, and the other needs to share their life experiences. Since the two needs converge, they get along very well.

Playing, talking, chatting, and sharing things with their elders is a shortcut to learning for children. Through this, they learn life experiences. Nowadays, children can easily access information online thanks to technology, but that is virtual information and can never replace conversation.

**Social contact has a special importance in child development**

In child development, face-to-face learning in physical conditions is very important. This learning affects the child's fine motor skills, gross motor skills, language skills, and contributes to the development of many of the child's abilities.

There are 6 skills in a child's developing psyche. Previously, only 4 skills were known; now sensory skills and micro-facial expression related skills have been added. For example, if a mother or father does not use facial expressions, i.e., they are expressionless when smiling or angry at the child, the child cannot even learn to smile properly. The child learns by mirroring thanks to mirror neurons in the brain.

**Our extended family culture offers solutions**

That's why we recommend sending children to kindergarten when they turn 3. If there are grandmothers, this is an advantage. Our extended family culture has been offering solutions to this for centuries. Even if there were no grandmothers, children grew up with the children of uncles, aunts, and other relatives. You knew who they were friends with, the neighbors were known, there was a safer environment, but now the safe environment has weakened.

If these relationships are also weak within the family, our children will grow up with social deficiencies. Children with high academic success but weak social skills will face many problems in the future. For example, some children are always first in school but fail when they enter life, unsuccessful with the opposite sex. What happens? We have raised children who are only lesson-focused, high in academic achievement, 'project children'. Their social skills are weak, social contact is weak, they cannot sit and chat.

Against this global problem, our culture of cooperation and sharing has now begun to be taught as a course in many important universities around the world. Harvard, Yale universities, and Bristol University in England have started providing empathy training under the name of Positive Psychology. Because there is an erosion of empathy in the world.

We have an invisible family insurance. When someone in the family goes bankrupt, they find a way to collect money among themselves. Whatever their needs are met. These are the beauties of our family system, but we are losing them. Let's not fall for the global project's game of 'why do we need a family?'
