## Özet

Experts state that changes have been observed in the understanding of aesthetics in recent years, with naturalness and personal characteristics coming to the fore instead of perfection and uniformity.

## İçerik

Clinical Psychologist Uluğ Çağrı Beyaz stated that aesthetic intervention can be a self-care behavior as long as the person is at peace with themselves, and said, “If that feeling of satisfaction disappears shortly after the procedure is finished, and your eye immediately catches another flaw in the body, then the place that needs intervention is not under the skin, but the self-worth perception itself.” Beyaz pointed out that excessive interventions can also affect facial expressions and interpersonal communication, emphasizing that today people are increasingly looking for a more natural, rested, and authentic version of their own faces.

Clinical Psychologist Uluğ Çağrı Beyaz from Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi made statements about the rising search for naturalness and authenticity in aesthetic interventions.

**People want their faces that make them who they are back! **

Evaluating the point aesthetics has reached in recent years, Clinical Psychologist Uluğ Çağrı Beyaz said, “People now prefer a more natural, less intervened look. Because we are very tired of uniformity.”

Beyaz stated that the search for perfection eventually starts to make everyone feel like they came from the same factory, and added, “The human mind, by its nature, seeks uniqueness and originality. When we see smooth faces with erased stories, that artificiality gives us an inner feeling of alienation instead of trust. Turning to naturalness is not a step back, but perhaps a kind of surrender. People want the lived experiences on their faces, those small asymmetries, in other words, that familiar state that makes them who they are, back.”

**Authenticity replaces the perception of perfect beauty! **

Noting that there have been changes in the perception of perfect, smooth, and filtered faces that dominated social media for a long time, Beyaz said the following:

“Filters initially offered us digital masks to play with, but this game quickly turned into a nightmare. The chasm between the flawless silhouette we created on screen and our real face in the mirror in the morning must have created a mass feeling of inadequacy. I don’t think we want to bear the burden of maintaining that digital illusion anymore. Our perception of beauty is shifting towards a more realistic, breathing ground. People are realizing how cold that sterile perfection actually is and are rediscovering the warmth and authenticity within minor flaws.”

**People don't want to look like emotionless display mannequins!**

Pointing out that what connects us to each other are our facial expressions, Beyaz said, “We read anger, compassion, and sorrow through those small muscle movements on our faces.”

Beyaz stated that when the dose of aesthetics is exceeded, faces become almost frozen, and said, “We have started to build an emotional wall even when smiling at the person in front of us. The minimal touches that have come to the fore recently are a human survival reflex as a social being. We are, in a way, saying, ‘Let me erase the traces of aging, but not lose my humanity, my capacity for empathy, and the silent bond I have with my loved ones.’ Mostly, people do not want to look like emotionless display mannequins.”

**The place that needs intervention might not be under the skin, but the perception of self-worth! **

Speaking about the boundary where a person's desire for aesthetic procedures can be a healthy self-care behavior and where it can be an indicator of a psychological problem related to body image, Beyaz said, “We can say it's about the relationship established with the reflection in the mirror.”

“If you love yourself as you are, feel at peace with your overall body, but want to add a little freshness to your face, this is no different from wearing a nice outfit,” said Beyaz, but argued that if one constantly sees a mistake that needs correction, an unbearable flaw, when looking in the mirror, then aesthetics might be a means of escape, not care.

Beyaz stated, “If that feeling of satisfaction disappears shortly after the procedure is finished, and your eye immediately catches another flaw in the body, then the place that needs intervention is not under the skin, but the self-worth perception itself.”

**Aesthetics is not a way to fill an inner void! **

Clinical Psychologist Uluğ Çağrı Beyaz clarified the psychological difference between ‘I want to feel more beautiful’ and ‘I cannot accept myself as I am,’ and said the following:

“One celebrates what exists and feels gratitude, the other tries to destroy what exists. The person who says ‘I want to feel more beautiful’ already finds the foundation they possess valuable; aesthetics for them might just be an extra or a small celebration. Even if they don’t get the desired result, they are not devastated. For the person who says ‘I cannot accept myself as I am,’ aesthetics is the only door open to being loved and approved. This person entirely bases their self-worth on their external appearance. Therefore, no matter how much they change, they struggle to fill that inner void.”
Beyaz concluded his words by saying, “Although not valid for everyone, mostly people no longer want to fit into a perfect mold approved by others; instead, when they look in the mirror, they want to see their own faces looking at life in their most beautiful, most rested, and most authentic state.”
