Candidates continue their research to choose the most suitable department and university that will shape their careers. Tarhan stated; “Today, there is rapid change in the world with digitalization. If we read this change correctly and take the right position, it will carry us to our targeted places. If we take the wrong position, we lose. We need to gain a significant competitive advantage here. Digital transformation is currently inevitable. So, we should discuss how we can adapt it to our needs. We must determine our digital roadmap. Today, Üsküdar University and all our scientific and practical partners are striving to represent our country in the best possible way in terms of digitalization and catching trends.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/files/img-1863-1-240726051015.JPG) ## **A Pioneer in Technology and Health…** Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that Üsküdar University offers an education that combines technology with health, emphasizing techno-entrepreneurship, and spoke about their work in this field: “Our students have the opportunity to receive education from an academic staff that includes a scientist with a schizophrenia drug patent, a member of the UN Drug Control Board, a member of the UN Environment Board, and faculty members who are experts in many different areas of Political Psychology research. Furthermore, our graduates from health sciences undergraduate and associate degree programs, especially our Faculty of Medicine, gain strong employment opportunities through our practice and scientific partnership with NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, and our Faculty of Dentistry graduates benefit from the collaboration with Üsküdar University Dental Hospital.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/images/whatsapp-image-2024-06-28-at-090009-240628090713-240726054632.jpeg) ## **Turkey's First and International Achievements** Üsküdar University was deemed worthy of receiving all 17 tags applied for, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024 results, a global university ranking organization. Tarhan stated, “This result is proof of our university's efforts in line with sustainable development goals. Üsküdar University ranked first in Turkey in the “Overall Rankings” category among foundation universities with 17 goal tags (SDG). This achievement is an indicator that our education quality and contributions to society are globally appreciated.” he said. Tarhan also added that Üsküdar University managed to be among the top 500 universities in the world rankings with the 17 evaluations it was entitled to receive, stating, “This is an indicator of how ambitious and competitive our university is on an international scale.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/files/insan-toplum-3-240726051407.JPG) ## **Turkey's Firsts and Positive Psychology…** Stating, “We set out as Turkey's first university focused on behavioral sciences, engineering, and health,” Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said that they are the first university not only in Turkey but also in the world to establish “Positive Psychology” and offer it as a credited course. Tarhan noted that they regularly organize conferences in this field, emphasizing the importance of social and emotional skills. Tarhan stated, “21st Century skills are known as innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. What we emphasize is that not only academic and technical skills but also social and emotional skills should be imparted to students. For this reason, we have been giving Human Values Awards every year since 2016. We also offer the Positive Psychology course, defined as the Science of Goodness, as a rector's course to all our students.” Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, stating that Üsküdar University is a university of firsts and has achieved many pioneering accomplishments, made the following evaluations: “Since our establishment, we have achieved many firsts. We established Turkey's first Institute of Sufi Studies. Our students develop under the same roof with a scientific institution focused on human values and educating qualified individuals. We also offer Turkey's first Undergraduate Program in Forensic Sciences, as well as departments and programs for future professions where students can receive multidisciplinary education.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/images/dr-tastan-ve-message-ekibi-002-240726051708.jpg) ## **TRGENMER Project and Space Journey** Tarhan noted that they have undertaken sustainable projects in various fields with all their academic units for the transformation of ideas into products, emphasizing the importance of artificial intelligence and stem cell research, and stating that they carried out Turkey's first artificial intelligence event. Tarhan said, “We continue our work with the R&D focuses we have adopted in many areas such as neuromodulation and genetic therapies, autism, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, stem cell – CRISPR research, and personalized treatment. To give a few examples, TRGENMER, working in the field of gene technology, is the academic unit that produces the highest number of projects for TÜBİTAK in CRISPR technology in Turkey. One of the 13 projects announced to go into space within the scope of the National Space Program was the ‘MESSAGE (Microgravity Associated Genetics) Science Mission’ developed by our esteemed Dr. Cihan Taştan and his team at TRGENMER.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/files/dji-0034-1-1-240726054756.JPG) ## **Importance of the MESSAGE Experiment** Tarhan explained that studies on samples brought by Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı from the International Space Station (ISS) are continuing in the TRGENMER laboratory, with significant progress being made. He stated that understanding the effects of microgravity environments on biological systems is critical for future space missions and biomedical research. Tarhan said, "Such research has great potential not only for space exploration but also for the treatment and prevention of diseases on Earth. Understanding the effects of microgravity on gene expression can lead to the development of new treatment methods, especially in critical health issues such as the immune system and cancer. Therefore, the MESSAGE experiment and similar studies can be groundbreaking in the field of health sciences and biotechnology." ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/files/toplu-1-1-240726051911.JPG) ## **High Schoolers Achieve Their Dreams with Üsküdar… ** Tarhan also noted that the ninth Science and Idea Festival (BFF) organized for high school students in cooperation with Üsküdar University and the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education has taken place. He stated, “Since our establishment, we have been encouraging our students to become scientists who will make groundbreaking discoveries in their fields. With the Science and Idea Festival, we created a platform where young people of high school age can showcase their ideas and inventions, and where a project culture can be instilled in them. You know, there's a concept now like 'reaching your best version.' You've all heard that. But even this concept is now outdated. We now talk about 'surpassing yourself.' The bigger goals you set for yourself, the more you will boost your self-confidence without comparing yourself to others. Remember, your closest competitor should be yourself. That's why we designed the Science and Idea Festival to give young people this feeling.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/files/img-0807-1-240726052150.JPG) ## **Üsküdar University's Entrepreneurship and Innovation Vision** Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, also explaining Üsküdar University's entrepreneurship and innovation vision, emphasized the university's commitment to the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Tarhan stated, "We organize various projects and programs to instill an entrepreneurial spirit in our students and encourage them to generate innovative ideas. As a university supporting techno-entrepreneurship, we provide the necessary resources and support for our students to bring their innovative projects to life." ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/files/carsi-yerleske-3-240726052343.JPG) ## **With the Career Test, 'Which university?' ** Drawing attention to the importance of “Career Tests” in guiding individuals towards the right professions in their decision-making, Tarhan stated, “Üsküdar University's website features a career test that helps individuals understand their strengths and weaknesses. This test provides results on which artistic, academic, social, or verbal areas a person is successful in. Although verbal, numerical, or equally weighted scores are known now, it is also beneficial to consult a career assessment scale,” thus guiding university candidates toward making the right choice. ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/files/img-8976-240726052439.JPG) ## **My First Preference: Üsküdar…** Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan especially emphasized that Üsküdar University offers rich scholarship opportunities and values them. He stated that in addition to 50% and 25% OSYM scholarships, candidates who make Üsküdar University their first preference in all paid quotas will receive an additional 35% scholarship for their first choice if placed, and candidates who make all of their first 5 preferences Üsküdar University will receive an additional 25% scholarship.
