Tarhan, making evaluations under the title “New Truths in Education,” said, “An educator should dig out the information underground like a data miner, or learn to dive first like a diver and then bring the pearls from the seabed to the surface.” ** ## İçerik ![Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2021/03/11/800/ekran-resmi-2021-03-10-20-44-59.png) The interest of the participants in the program organized for educators was intense. ## **“The one who best knows what is beneficial for humans is only their Creator” ** In the program moderated by Büşra Açıkgöz, Tarhan spoke about positive adjustments in the mind; “For a person to progress by making correct decisions throughout their life, they must know their reason for existence and be able to constantly make positive adjustments in all their relationships, from their social life and their relationship with their Creator to their close environment. If a person answers the question, ‘Who best knows my existential settings?’ with ‘Me,’ this is making oneself a god on earth. However, the one who best knows what is beneficial for a person may be their Creator.” ## **“No civilization without the prefrontal brain!” ** Tarhan, speaking about the brain mapping method; “I have an assertive saying: no civilization without the prefrontal brain. When we look at the brain mapping method, we see 3 types. The brain in schizophrenia, the brain in a healthy person, and the brain in an addicted person. In the schizophrenic brain, the frontal part does not function well. The part of the brain related to imagination works, whereas in a healthy brain, this distribution is equal. After an addicted person takes ecstasy, all serotonin stores in the frontal region of the brain are depleted. When serotonin stores are depleted, this person dances all night, has tremendous energy, but the brain can only return to normal three weeks later.” he stated. ## **“Years later, we will become a lonely society” ** Tarhan also touched upon the issue of marriage in his speech; “Statistics from Turkey for 2017-2018 show that divorce rates in the first 5 years of marriage are around 35%. According to statements made after the pandemic, the divorce rate in Turkey was observed to rise above 50%. Additionally, domestic violence also increased after the pandemic. In fact, it increased so much that they could not explain the February statistics, wondering if there was a mistake. There is a greater increase compared to the previous year. While the number of marriages in Turkey was 544,322 in 2001, it only increased by 1.6% to 533,202 in 2018. The number of divorces, on the other hand, increased by 54.8% from 91,994 in 2001 to 142,448 in 2018. When we look at the striking changes in family structure, the number of single-person households is increasing while the number of 3, 4, 5-person households is decreasing. This means loneliness is emerging. Years later, we too will become a lonely society.” he stated. ## **“We need to see children’s behavior and efforts, not their personality” ** Tarhan offered advice to teachers; “To love does not mean to spoil. In our culture, it is said, ‘If you love them, they will get spoiled and step all over you.’ However, advice and discipline are like snowfall. They stick if they are slow and continuous. We need to see children’s behavior and efforts, not their personality. If you praise their personality, the child thinks, ‘I am good, I am sufficient,’ and closes themselves off to development. However, if you praise their behavior and efforts, children feel valuable. They also model you. Therefore, if you want to be your students’ hero, you will be their leader. If you leave leadership to them, you cannot establish authority in the classroom.
