Psychiatry Specialist Prof. Dr. Onur Noyan, touching upon the factors contributing to the increased use of puff devices, says, “It is a colorful, toy-like, small-sized device that produces little smoke and is considered harmless. The appearance of some artists and social media phenomena using puff devices also affects their popularity,” and warns that it could facilitate the transition to cigarettes or cause those who want to quit smoking to switch to a new addiction. Addictive effect is no different from cigarettes Psychiatry Specialist Prof. Dr. Onur Noyan began his speech by stating that electronic devices called puff devices, which have recently become popular, and traditional cigarettes have different contents, and he said, “A cigarette is a product made from tobacco that releases nicotine and various harmful chemicals when burned. Puff devices, on the other hand, are generally electronic cigarettes that do not contain tobacco. Puff devices provide a nicotine-like effect by heating and vaporizing liquid nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. Cigarettes and other tobacco products are found in solid or liquid forms containing nicotine. Therefore, the addictive effect of colorful and innocent-looking puff devices is no different from that of cigarettes.” /> Seeing celebrities use them affects the popularity of the devices Noyan pointed out that many factors contribute to the popularity of puff devices, stating, “Especially among young people, the perception of puff devices as 'innocent' leads to their increased use due to the influence of popular culture. Reasons such as being considered less harmful or not harmful at all, the belief that they are not addictive, the preference for them with the thought of 'I am not smoking,' and their availability in different flavors are among the factors contributing to the increased use of puff devices.” May lead to a transition to a new addiction Underlining that the use of puff devices carries many risks, Prof. Dr. Onur Noyan warned, “Among young people, factors such as peer influence, expectation of popularity, emulation, curiosity, and other reasons I mentioned, can make it easier to start using these devices.” He concluded his remarks by explaining the potential risks of these devices as follows: “Although there is insufficient information about the long-term effects of the chemicals contained in these devices, it is reported that they can cause lung infections and respiratory difficulties. Furthermore, puff devices can facilitate the transition to cigarettes and may cause those who want to quit smoking to switch to a new addiction. We are not yet aware of many of the dangers that await us in the coming years.
