## İçerik

For individuals experiencing internal conflict, the greatest pain comes from their unacknowledged mistakes. We have mistakes that we don't accept, or mistakes that don't align with our true identity and personality.

We need to accept these mistakes, forgive ourselves, and ask 'What did this teach me?' to redefine it and put it on the shelf. We take a mistake we made 10 years ago and constantly relive it in our minds as if we made it yesterday.

**We cannot use the mechanism of forgiveness**

That mistake or trauma might be our own fault, or it might be a mistake made against us. In such situations, we are unable to use the mechanism of forgiveness. Yet, even if the person in front of you doesn't deserve forgiveness, it is necessary to accept them in these situations. One must activate and use their reasoning to distinguish between what they can change and what they cannot. If a person pursues issues they cannot change and are beyond their power, they will suffer. In such cases, they should accept it and say, 'I cannot change this right now, but perhaps if conditions change in the future, I will express my reaction and attitude appropriately at the right time.'

**Self-reflection is an important part of personal development**

When this is not done, a feeling of revenge sometimes emerges. Instead of immediately seeking revenge, it is necessary to remain calm. Being able to perform self-reflection correctly is the most important part of a person's personal development. There are some personal development techniques currently being abandoned. These techniques lead people to ignore negative emotions, conflicts, and traumas within themselves, focusing them only on the positive.

**Weaknesses should also be accepted and developed**

A human being is not merely a creature composed of positive emotions. They are a blend of positive and negative emotions. You will see both the positive and strong sides, as well as the weak side of that blend. A person will try to strengthen, correct, and repair their weak side. One needs to try to progress in life by utilizing their strong points. It is important for a person to know both their strengths and weaknesses. Not by seeing our strong points and ignoring our weak points. We need to manage them. We need to accept them. One needs to think about what they can do to develop their weak points.

In our culture, this is called modesty (tevazu). Modesty is not seeing oneself as inferior or worthless compared to others. Everyone is equal because everyone is unique. Even a person with an IQ of 60 is original. Because there is no one like them. Everything that is unique is worthy of respect because it is original. One should not look down on anyone, but also not consider oneself superior to anyone. For example, some people take refuge in a feeling of superiority to comfort themselves, to escape self-reflection.

**Criticism should be seen as a gift**

The situation called arrogance (kibir) in our culture. When one takes refuge in this emotion, the situation we call narcissistic blindness occurs. Individuals with narcissistic blindness do not see their flaws. If someone points out their flaw, they see that person as an enemy. And such a person cannot engage in self-reflection. Because they cannot, they crash into a wall somewhere like a truck, or tumble into a ravine somewhere. Therefore, while progressing on the path of life, external criticism should be seen as a gift. What does a person who sees criticism as a gift do? They self-criticize. What do I need to do to avoid making mistakes here? What did previous mistakes teach me? What did previous events teach me? One needs to ask.

**Lifelong learning exists...**

Humans are lifelong learners. The emergence of neuroplasticity in the brain shows that learning continues throughout life. When you say 'I know everything now,' you freeze there. After that, the brain begins to shrink and atrophy. Among 21st-century skills, the concept of a learning organization stands out. Learning is not only valid for individuals but also for society. We, as physicians, also learn a lot from our patients. Patients are, in a professional sense, our first students, our first educators. They ask us for help with their problems. When we cannot solve that problem with our existing knowledge, we challenge our brains. We look into the literature, wondering what it could be, what can be done to solve this problem, who has done what related to this in the world, and in the process, we learn things ourselves. While finding a remedy for their troubles, we also develop ourselves. They ask Lokman Hekim, 'Where did you learn this wisdom?' Lokman Hekim gives a very interesting answer: 'I learned it from the blind. A blind person does not take a step without probing the ground with their stick.'

**Effort and endeavor are required to learn wisdom**

So, when making decisions in life, you will thoroughly weigh and evaluate, conduct needs analysis, risk analysis, and crisis analysis. By doing all these, by measuring and planning, and by proceeding step by step, that is how you learn wisdom. But for this, effort, endeavor, and pushing oneself are required. Wisdom does not open its door to those who sit idly by. Wisdom is a treasure. It is such a treasure that it is like the treasure beneath the sea, and it reveals itself to those who can dive. Yunus Emre has a very beautiful saying. He embarks on an inner journey of discovery. From there, he finds divine love. He says, ''I found the sweetest of honeys.'' He says, 'My hive is rightfully for others.' Meaning, to such an extent that he understands the insignificance of what he possesses when he discovers the beauties of that inner journey of discovery. This too is self-reflection.

**Self-reflection is not a fight, it is progressing on the path of development...**

Self-reflection is not a bad thing. Self-reflection is not a fight, it is not war. Self-reflection is progressing on the path of development. It is part of growth. The feeling of accountability makes people very uncomfortable. Humankind does not like to be held accountable. It is human nature. Everyone says, 'No one should hold me accountable.' But in life, a human is a civilized being, a relational being. It is not possible for a person to be successful or happy like a one-person army. Because success is team success. It is cooperation success. The more a person can socialize, the wider their social capital, the richer that person is.
