## Özet

**Üsküdar University Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, in the book titled “A Meta-Analysis of the Corruption of the Family Institution in Global and Societal Dimensions” published by Kaknüs Psychology Publications, penned an article titled ‘Are Sexual Identities Innate or Acquired?’ In the book, which consists of articles by experts in their fields initiated by the World Child and Family Protection Platform (ÇAKOP), Tarhan examines highly debated topics such as biological sex, sexuality, and sexual orientation with their scientific foundations. **

**Here is Tarhan’s article:
 What is biological sex? **
The female brain works differently. The left brain is associated with logical brain calculations (logic, reasoning, analysis, speech), while the right brain is associated with emotions (feeling, excitement, art, aesthetics, music).
With adolescence, as the frontal lobe (forebrain) matures, the thinking brain and the feeling brain begin to work in connection. In girls, the right brain is dominant; in boys, the left brain is dominant. The left brain is related to causality, and the right brain is related to holism. When Einstein’s brain was found, neuroscience was not yet highly developed, so it is being examined in detail following developments (within the last 15-20 years). In the middle of the brain, there is the corpus callosum, which enables communication between the right and left brains. The thickness of Einstein’s corpus callosum was found to be far above average, meaning both his brains were determined to be used at a very high level.
If a person develops their forebrain, they use both hemispheres. Men think point-wise. Women think emotionally. Men think in a results-oriented way. Women, on the other hand, feel lonely and want to talk and share. They try to relax. In one study, male and female students were given a button. They were told, “Press when sexuality comes to mind.” Men pressed 5 times more often. The male brain is focused on eroticism, while the female brain is focused on romanticism. Biologically, by creation, their sexes are not equal. They are encoded separately in our genes and chromosomes.
In the USA, between 1950 and 2000, the gross national product increased from $20,000 to $35,000. But the happiness score remained the same. In fact, happiness is not a goal but an outcome. In the pursuit of happiness, one needs to question the life philosophy that glorifies hedonism and sexuality. If a person lives correctly, happiness comes naturally.
**What is the situation of the family in the Western world? **
Mating is biological, but marriage is cultural. Sexual identity can also be formed through sociocultural learning. For example, samurais went to their wives to have children. Later, they satisfied their needs with their own gender. They did this socioculturally. This is wrong in our culture. It was like this in the time of Prophet Lot. Before Prophet Noah, incest and unregistered marriages were also very common. In Western culture, this is accepted as correct.
The rate of children born out of wedlock is 2.09% in Turkey, 54% in Sweden, 56% in Norway, 59% in France, and 47% in the UK.
In France, the identity documents of children born state “parent 1” and “parent 2.” They cannot write “mother” because they cannot provide maternal affection. The number of children growing up with a single parent is high. They attach more importance to gender neutrality. They say we have the right to say “no” because it is not genetic. Because they are imposing a genderless society.

**Marriage in Turkey; **
Between 2001 and 2018, the divorce rate increased by 54.8%. We may need to increase child protection programs. There is an increase in the number of single-person households. Household fragility is increasing.
Taking on Western culture was wrong. We understood this. In the USA, there are open marriages. Both parties are married to someone else. (They criticized Iran for having “muta marriage” [temporary marriage].)
**Reasons increasing the likelihood of the collapse of the family institution; **
Women and men are equal in rights and freedoms. Biologically, they are not equal. In 2019, Turkey ranked 1st among OECD member countries with 38% in violence against women (physical and sexual violence).
We must take precautions against this. To avoid teaching sexual identity, they started not dressing children in blue and pink. They have defined nearly 100 genders. In the Netherlands, a party advocating incest was founded. It couldn’t enter parliament. In Germany, an ethics committee makes a decision defending incest. Two siblings live together without marrying. Both are physically and mentally healthy, and a decision comes out stating, “it is not right to criminalize this.” This is a beginning. More will follow. We must definitely take precautions.
 **Important Definitions **
**Biological sex:** Is in the form of female and male. It has a genetic sequence equivalent.
**Sexual identity role:** Female, male. Asexuality, transsexuality, bisexuality, transvestism. After 18 years of age, a person can be treated if they wish. If the person does not wish, it is left to social acceptance. Since it is an area of freedom, the decision for treatment can be made in line with the person's preference.
**Sexual orientation: **Defines female, male, homosexuality, pedophilia, incest, bisexuality, asexuality, and sexual partner choice. The last two sexual roles have no genetic sequence equivalent.
There is no such thing as a gay gene. Research conducted at Oxford University in February 2022 found no genetic sequence for transsexuality and transvestism. It is not on the gene map.
**Homosexuality as a Sexual Role and Orientation: **
Homosexuality is a section removed from psychiatry classification books in 1973, not accepted as a disease, but suggested to be treated merely as a social issue. As a sexual orientation, there is an attraction to the same sex. These individuals are not bothered by the difference between their biological sexual identities and the sexual roles they prefer. Most often, it is hidden. They do not become members of homosexual associations. (Like Samurai Warriors) This role encompasses homosexuals who say, “I am a man to the core, but I experience sexuality with my own sex.”
**Gender dysphoria is a disease.** If a person says, “I am a man (or a woman, if female) but I am uncomfortable with this,” it is a disease. It is mandatory to help these individuals. But they want to ban therapies. A small number of psychiatrists can object because the pressure is very intense. Treatment is not administered without the person's consent. But social restrictions can be imposed.
A person has the freedom to make mistakes. There is also the freedom to fall into sin. Education should be given before the age of 18, even before entering adolescence. If parents leave a child free during early adolescence and say “live as you wish,” the child may lean in that direction.
**Transsexuality** is the desire to be like the opposite sex, to dress like them. The West has paved the way for these.
 **Trans Identities **
**Transsexual Identity:** Is the state of feeling oneself to be of the opposite sex. It has been accepted as a disease. The person may or may not have internalized homosexuality. It can be covert or overt.
**Transvestism:** Dressing like the opposite sex. It has been accepted as a disease.
**Sociohomosexual Orientation: **Is feeling oneself to be of one's natural biological sex but experiencing the sexual role with the same sex. It has not been defined as a disease but is left to the approval of cultures.** Gay and lesbian **are popular terms that encompass these three groups.
**What Do We Understand by the Definition of Sexual Identity? **

**Gender Identity Disorder: **Is a situation where a person intensely desires to be of the opposite sex or believes they are of the opposite sex. The person is excessively uncomfortable with their biological sex. (cf. Jacobson J., Jacobson A.; trans: Kayaalp and Doğangün, 2006, p: 130) This section is the redefined part of homosexuality in disease classification systems. It is known as transvestism, transsexualism. It is known that it requires treatment and is defined as a disease in books (DSM IV, p.: 723, item no: 302.5, DSM V, 2013, Gender Dysphoria).
There is the **Wild Child Incident**. A child grows up with parents until the age of 3. At 3, they disappear (until the age of 10). After being found, they behave like a dog. By the age of 20, they can only learn to stand and speak limitedly. **It is not clear if this child is a girl or a boy. It cannot be understood from their behavior. **This example is used to say that sexual identity is learned culturally. A human child comes into the world to learn. They learn until the age of 18.
 **Homophobia-Heterophobia **
Is a struggle against homophobia necessary? Homophobia should be understood as demeaning homosexuals. People with this preference should be respected, but if deemed necessary, it should also be stated that it is not approved.
What is heterophobia? It is the opposite of homophobia. It refers to fearing marriage to the extent of hating it. It is common among homosexual activists.
For these reasons, a correct stance in health and education policies may be requested to prevent an increase in homosexual preferences among future generations.
In my opinion, showing sensitivity towards future generations is a commendable behavior. And it should be evaluated within the scope of preventive mental health studies.
**The Importance of Early Adolescence **

There is no scientific basis for defining homosexuality as a healthy condition like heterosexuality. If enlightening information is not provided to the public, the door to treatment and help is closed for individuals who have recognized homosexual tendencies in early adolescence and are striving for self-control and impulse control, that is, those who have homosexual tendencies but want to control them.
It is extremely objectionable for psychiatric associations to be instrumental in misunderstandings and suggestions that would increase homosexual preferences. Encouraging and directing individuals with concerns about sexual identity towards a homosexual identity is a matter of social responsibility for a professional.
 **Sexual Role Measurement **
A 2-stage method for measuring socially assigned gender. In 2010, Wylie et al. worked with this two-item scale in a cognitive interview phase with a sample of 82 adolescents and individuals who identified as female, male, or transgender. The first item measured gender appearance, and the second item measured gender mannerisms. (Source: Wylie SA., Corliss HL., Boulanger V.,Prokop l.A., Austin SB, 2010, Socially assigned gender nonconformity: Gender Roles 63(3-4): 264-276)
As Üsküdar University, a “Gender Dysphoria Scale” has been developed.
 **1-Gender Appearance Scale **
A person’s appearance, style, or clothing influences people’s thoughts about them. On average, how do you think people would describe your appearance, style, or clothing?
 **(Mark one) **
 - Very feminine
 - Mostly feminine
 - Somewhat feminine
 - Equally feminine and masculine
 - Somewhat masculine
 - Mostly masculine
 - Very masculine
 **2-Gender Mannerism Scale **
A person’s mannerisms (such as their speech or walk) influence how people think about them. On average, how do you think people would describe your mannerisms? (Mark one)
 - Very feminine
 - Mostly feminine
 - Somewhat feminine
 - Equally feminine and masculine
 - Somewhat masculine
 - Mostly masculine
 - Very masculine
 **3-Measurement of Sexual Attractiveness
 4-Measurement of Sexual Orientation**
 **Gender Equality Ideology **
For these reasons, “gender equality” is a global ideology. Accepting or rejecting it is the responsibility of those who determine our social policies, and they bear the burden for it. Let us please see the thesis of “gender equality,” which is a sick prescription from the West, and the result of its cultural psychological warfare.
Let us advocate for gender justice, not gender equality.
LGBT+ Q (TTQQIAA) is a social movement; like any social movement, it spreads if approved by society.
