Among the project stakeholders, Süleyman Uysal, Antalya Governorship Provincial Social Studies and Project Director, Bahattin Bayraktar, President of Antalya Healthy Living Association, and Hakan Şimşek, Antalya Governorship Researcher, also attended the signing ceremony. In his speech, Tarhan emphasized the importance of taking risks and producing new projects to solve societal problems through the Social Innovation Project, stating: “Innovation and entrepreneurship demonstrate risk-taking. New options need to be explored; innovative entrepreneurship disrupts the comfort zone. In the program, which began with the welcoming speech of Dr. Nebiye Yaşar, Director of the Young Brains Academy Application and Research Center, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan drew attention to the importance of social innovation. ![](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2022/03/24/800/nevzat-tarhan-ve-suleyman-uysal.JPG) ## **Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “Social innovation is extremely important for the family”** Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, emphasizing that the most important cell of society is the family, highlighted the importance of social innovations in this area. Tarhan stated: “What a cell is in the human body, the family is in society. When the cell's DNA is damaged, the body collapses. The cell of society is the family. One must work for the cell to be healthy. There is a business theory that our family structure is strong. Currently, statistics show the exact opposite. The rate of household fragility in Turkey has increased dramatically in the last five to ten years. Comparing one-person households with five-person households, one-person households are increasing while larger ones are decreasing. This is similar to what is currently happening in European countries. There, fifty percent of society consists of single-type families. In Iceland, this rate is sixty-nine percent, and in Scandinavian countries, it is fifty-six percent. The biggest misconception of modernism is that it claims there is no family; there is such a serious approach without a scientific basis. Because there is no scientific basis, this issue has turned into an ideology of gender inequality.” ![](https://cdn.uskudar.edu.tr/uploads/images/2022/03/24/800/toplu-fotograf-1.JPG) ## **Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “There will be an incubation effort for new ideas to emerge”** Tarhan, emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation, stressed that life cannot progress without taking risks. Stating that risks must be taken for projects to be implemented, Tarhan said: “Innovation and entrepreneurship demonstrate risk-taking. New options need to be explored; innovative entrepreneurship disrupts the comfort zone. If it doesn’t, no progress can be made. If risks are not taken, success will not emerge in average situations. Successes under risk result in signatures. A social innovation entrepreneurship project means socializing and taking risks. There will be an incubation effort for new ideas to emerge. This is why R&D centers are called incubation centers. Our department was established in 2010 as a provincial directorate. It hasn't been fully organized throughout Turkey but is number one in Antalya. We have carried out many projects, studies, and training programs and made a significant impact. I hope this project will also be our peak. We target children who experience difficulties in the family and problems with their parents. We bring them together through conversation and camaraderie. Unfortunately, neighborly relations and being together to chat are no longer common. We reiterate these through friendly conversation. It is very important in human nature to converse and be together. The presence of our esteemed Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan in this project excited us. I convey our gratitude and thanks. I sincerely thank all the dedicated people who contributed. Şimşek stated: “There is a lot of effort in this journey we embarked on with the idea of SAYAD. I thank our esteemed Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan for providing this opportunity. I am very happy that we have reached the protocol stage. We are trying to produce social projects on issues concerning public order. We are undertaking social, economic, and community-embracing projects before they turn into social disasters. The social innovation model arises from a need. With these projects, we can achieve sustainable results. Üsküdar Üniversitesi was the only university doing civil society work as a Social Innovation Application and Development Center. Our goal is to create a model; the family issue is a crucial topic, and the problem is very clear!
