**The concept of mutual aid is gaining new meaning worldwide**

Mutual aid is very important and very necessary in both human and social terms. The concept of mutual aid, an important value of our ancient culture, is being rediscovered in the world. Mutual aid, which is among the 21st Century skills, is regaining the meaning it once lost in popular culture.

The importance of mutual aid is also being rediscovered worldwide. One of the skills currently considered 21st-century skills is the increase of mutual aid, because especially in Western culture, helping someone or receiving help is seen as a weakness. There is a thought that it hinders individualism because it is seen as a weakness. Nietzsche has a saying on this matter. He says; “Mutual aid increases the cost of operating humility.” Why should a person who cannot stand on their own two feet perish according to the law of natural selection? We don't have to help them,” is an approach that exists.

**Capitalism created a ruthless culture**

When capitalism merged with materialism, a ruthless culture emerged. Seriously, with the thought that it increases operating costs in the capitalist system, the West scorned and excluded mutual aid, leading to a state of loneliness. They even disparaged Eastern culture as a "charity culture." Here too, those who glorify this Western mentality and culture see mutual aid as a sign of weakness. Japanese people commit suicide rather than receive help. Suicide among the elderly is most prevalent in Japan. There is a situation related to committing suicide when one falls into a helpless state. Currently, in 21st-century skills, mutual aid is accepted as a sign of quality systems. Especially, a 21st-century skill is teamwork. True success lies more in team success than individual success. Neuroscience also supported this. Neuroscience states that humans are relational beings. The human mind is not programmed to live alone.

**Humans should be able to share more than they need**

Globally, self-admiration and egocentrism are glorified under the guise of self-confidence in popular culture. Helping others is seen as unnecessary. This value of mutual aid has begun to be lost in our society. The West is trying to re-establish this. Within positive psychology training and third-wave psychotherapy training, we have created a component for mutual aid. One of the steps is sharing. That is, people should be able to share more than they need. In our culture, this is referred to as "infak." Being able to share more than one needs and the culture of endowments are among our important values from the past.

**We teach the concepts of silent help, silent good deeds**

Civilization goes hand in hand with sharing. If sharing is seen as a method and being indebted to each other is seen as a method while helping, saying 'I am a superior person, look I am helping,' or 'they have rights with me, so I must do it,' meaning selfishness is done with a condescending view, it is not complete help. It certainly doesn't go to waste, but performing help ostentatiously and taking selfies while helping does not fully embody the concept of help. In our training on [narcissism](https://www.nevzattarhan.com/icimizdeki-narsistik-cekirdek-yaptigimiz-sebepsiz-iyiliklerle-kuculur.html), we teach the concepts of 'silent help, silent good deeds.' If a person succeeds in doing good without showing it to anyone, it means they are taming their own narcissism. Of course, this is not easy.

**Children learn mutual aid from parents**

Who is the most selfish being? The answer is a child. Because a child thinks the world revolves around them. If parents are a model of mutual aid, children learn it naturally. But if parents are selfish, if there are 'women-men wars' between parents in marriage, children also learn 'women-men wars.' However, if there is male-female complementarity, if they complete each other's shortcomings in marriage, then even service behavior when one is sick is a language of love. Giving gifts is a language of love. A smile is a language of love.

**Civilized societies differentiate themselves with rights, law, and respect**

Social norms in society have disintegrated. Society does not teach. Changing the method of empathy happens with culture. Gender is genetic, but marriage is cultural. The concept of marriage needs to be learned culturally. If you leave a person uneducated, they become selfish and ruthless. Unfortunately, human genetic inclination is like this. The level of development of an educated person is good. What distinguishes civilized from uncivilized societies is the ability to respect rights, law, and one another. A person who sleeps comfortably while someone next to them suffers is selfish. The saying 'He who sleeps while his neighbor is hungry is not one of us' is one of the most important slogans of our culture.

**Generosity and honesty are viewed negatively**

There is education on gratitude and thankfulness, there is a model of sharing. We now have to teach with modules. Parents should also put some thought into teaching. The issue is not just bringing bread home. Is raising a good child less important than establishing a good factory? Is being a good businessman better than being a father? The roles of motherhood and fatherhood are experiencing problems. Of course, one should not always be a giver; the extent of sacrifice also gets out of hand for us. A person also has rights towards themselves. Trying to help those in need is important. The value of generosity was a value taught to us beautifully. Currently, there is a negative perception towards generosity and honesty. Unfortunately, there is such a trend that needs to be questioned.
