## Özet
Experts state that with the impact of digitalization, the number of relationships has increased, but real intimacy is gradually decreasing.
## İçerik
Clinical Psychologist Yasemin Yalçın stated that one-sided connections established through social media, screens, and artificial intelligence are preferred more due to their safe and controllable nature, adding, “However, human psychology develops not only with safety but with reciprocity. Real relationships require contact, emotional response, and co-regulation.” Yalçın pointed out that in the long term, as individuals move away from real relationships, they can experience an inner void, loneliness, and emotional stagnation, emphasizing that when emotions cannot be expressed, the body intervenes and psychosomatic symptoms can increase.
Clinical Psychologist Yasemin Yalçın from Üsküdar Üniversitesi NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi discussed the negative effects of one-sided (parasocial) relationships, which are becoming widespread in the digital age, on human psychology and body.
**One-sided relationships are preferred more because they are safe and controllable! **
Clinical Psychologist Yasemin Yalçın, noting that human relationships appear to be increasing in the digital age while 'real' intimacy is gradually decreasing, said, “Connections established through social media, screens, and artificial intelligence offer a constant sense of accessibility; however, this contact often lacks reciprocity and depth.”
Yalçın, stating that this form of attachment is called 'parasocial interaction' in psychology, commented, “These one-sided relationships that individuals form with a screen figure, a content creator, or artificial intelligence are increasingly preferred because they are safe and controllable.”
**Human psychology develops not only with safety but with mutual interaction!**
Clinical Psychologist Yasemin Yalçın, pointing out that parasocial connections reduce the risk of rejection and disappointment, said, “Individuals can experience a sense of closeness without getting hurt, exerting effort, or entering uncertainty.”
However, Yalçın stated that human psychology develops not only with safety but with reciprocity, adding that real relationships require contact, emotional response, and co-regulation; and when these elements are absent, individuals can lack a deep connection even if they feel like they are in a relationship.
**Individuals unknowingly narrow their comfort zone! **
Clinical Psychologist Yasemin Yalçın emphasized that a stagnation can emerge on a mental and emotional level when one stays away from real relationships for a long time, and continued as follows:
“Lack of enthusiasm for life, difficulty in making decisions, procrastination behaviors, and a sense of inner emptiness are among the common reflections of this process. Emotions remain superficial; individuals can feel connected to something while simultaneously experiencing loneliness. Because the need for intimacy is not fully met, real relationships begin to be perceived as tiring, demanding, and risky. This situation also becomes evident in the relational sphere. Instead of forming mutual connections, observing, following, and maintaining distance becomes easier. Even small disappointments become difficult to tolerate, while the desire to form relationships can give way to withdrawal. Thus, individuals unknowingly narrow their comfort zone.”
**When emotions cannot be expressed, the body begins to speak! **
Yalçın, stating that the human body cannot remain indifferent to this lack of contact, said, “The nervous system is regulated by live relational stimuli such as touch, eye contact, tone of voice, and emotional response.”
Yalçın stated that when these needs are not met, the body intervenes, explaining, “Psychosomatic symptoms such as unexplained pains, chronic fatigue, digestive problems, muscle tension, palpitations, and shortness of breath can increase during this process. When emotions cannot be expressed or lived within a relationship, the body begins to speak.”
**Humans exist by making contact and finding reciprocation! **
Clinical Psychologist Yasemin Yalçın, underlining that connections established with artificial intelligence create a remarkable area at this point, said, “Providing a non-judgmental, always accessible, and non-hurtful relationship experience makes these connections attractive.”
However, Yalçın noted that the human nervous system can only be regulated by another living nervous system, concluding her words as follows:
“Artificial connections can provide temporary relief; however, lasting balance and well-being are possible only through real and reciprocal relationships. Forming close relationships is not a romantic expectation but a psychological and biological need. When evaluating mental, emotional, and physical well-being, one must approach it with a holistic perspective, considering not only stress levels but also how a person connects, where they avoid contact, and in which areas they remain alone. Humans exist not merely by observing, but by making contact and finding reciprocation.”
