Many associations came together to voice the importance of human values more strongly for the reconstruction of human values that have fallen into oblivion recently. Speaking at the meeting where the establishment of a federation was aimed, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan drew attention to the ultimate goal being to benefit people. Tarhan emphasized that if an ecosystem could be created for the reconstruction of human values, this system could nourish and grow itself, reminding that it is important to see the need and produce solutions for it. ** ## İçerik ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/images/toplu-foto-250219100423.png) The meeting held in the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Central Campus Senate meeting hall was attended by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Advisor Prof. Dr. İsmail Barış, Come Hold My Hand Association Board Members, İstanbul Foster Family Association President Neşe Gökalp, Girls Protection Association Board Chairman Nadire Uçan, DİLHAN Association - Those Who Devote Themselves to Darülaceze and Get Inspired Association Board Chairman Havva İnç Gürak, 3D on Hold Association Founding President İsmail İşler, International Young Volunteers Association Vice President Mehmet Akif Gencer, and Red Children Association Board Vice President Didem Özal Ekinci. ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/images/nevzat-tarhan1-250219100448.png) ## **Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “If our intention is right, success will follow”** Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, emphasizing that the main goal of the meeting was to benefit people, stated that one of the most important skills of the 21st century is to act as a team. Tarhan said: “When carrying out a project, it is very important that everything proceeds in a transparent, open, and honest manner. If our intention is right, success will follow. The most critical point here is that our goal should not be solely based on personal interests. Our main goal should be to touch people and provide benefit. If we act with this perspective, we can achieve truly meaningful work. Otherwise, we would be sabotaging ourselves. Teamwork plays a large role on the path to success, as do individual efforts. One of the most important skills of the 21st century is being able to act as a team. We see similar examples in nature. When starlings fly in large groups, predatory birds cannot approach them. Similarly, fish protect themselves by moving in schools in the seas. This is called ‘swarm intelligence’ in nature. The human equivalent of this is ‘group intelligence’. For success to be sustainable, we need to establish not just an individual system, but a societal one. If we can create an ecosystem for the reconstruction of human values, this system will nourish and grow itself. What is important here is not to pursue self-interest, but to truly see the need and produce solutions for it. Barış said: “We will hold a consultation meeting. Our lawyer will explain very briefly how a general assembly decision will be made. Then decisions will emerge from general topics. After that, we will hold another meeting. That is also ultimately a meeting. Yaşar said: “In the process we started with the Amasya Associations Federation, we successfully implemented the project we received from the Ministry of Interior. During this process, we closely experienced the power and impact of federations. Our Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, emphasizes the societal impact of federations at every opportunity. In the meeting held in August, they expressed their belief in the power of federations and stated that they prioritize projects. Civil society means producing value. We will continue to make stronger contributions to society together with the federations.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/images/ayse-banu-250219100558.png) ## **Ayşe Banu Güngenci: “Being part of Üsküdar Üniversitesi is a great opportunity for us”** Ayşe Banu Güngenci, Secretary General of the Come Hold My Hand Rehabilitation Education and Aid Association, provided information about the association. Güngenci said: “Here, associations with the same purpose came together under the name of a consultation meeting. The Come Hold My Hand Association was founded in 2010 with a few volunteers. Our initial purpose was an association founded for children who have experienced neglect and abuse. We provided support specifically to our children staying in institutions in this regard. We had a protocol with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. Together with them, we provided support to children in social, social rehabilitation, and health fields. Later, our charter changed in 2010-2015. This time, we tried to support all disadvantaged children aged 0-18 and grew rapidly. We are still working with the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Social Services, Family and Social Services. Being part of Üsküdar Üniversitesi allows us to act a little more comfortably, and this is a great opportunity for us. Because we receive support from expert instructors. Student clubs and expert instructors from almost every faculty support us. We can also easily take part in the field in this area.” ![](https://cdn.uha.com.tr/content/images/havva-inc-250219100612.png) ## **Havva İnç Gürak: “Devoting oneself here is not just a profession, but a matter of humanity”** The story of Havva İnç Gürak, Chairman of the Board of DİLHAN Association - Those Who Devote Themselves to Darülaceze and Get Inspired Association, attracted considerable attention at the meeting. Gürak, noting that small changes made big differences and that life there became healthier, said: “I am Mother Havva. After finishing Florence Nightingale, I started working at Darülaceze in 1973 at my professor's suggestion. At that time, I was trying to apply modern techniques from American Hospital here, but did I have the means? I was cutting oil cans from the dining hall and making stoves to provide care for patients. Among those who came here were people who grew up in palaces and were left alone when they got old, and those who were left abandoned on the streets... One day, when I treated a severely wounded patient, he opened his eyes and asked, 'Did I die and come to heaven?' At that moment, I understood that dedicating oneself here was not just a profession, but a matter of humanity. Over time, I made efforts to improve the education of children and the conditions of the elderly here. We met with Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı from Boğaziçi University and organized training sessions. Initially, the staff resisted, but over time they saw the impact of science in the field. Previously, when we told visitors bringing chocolates to children 'Forbidden,' it was thought that the staff ate the chocolates. After the training, the staff adopted a conscious approach, saying, 'We can give it at this hour, please wait if you wish.' Small changes made big differences, and life here became healthier.” ## **“Every life you touch with love transforms”** Gürak, emphasizing that every life touched with love can change, concluded her words by saying: “After these experiences, the Darülaceze Devotion and Inspiration Association (DİLHAN) was established in 2003. We opened 'houses of love' for children to prevent them from being left abandoned, and created the 'Step by Step to Life House' for young people over 18. We once healed a child from the street who couldn't control their anus, with ballet lessons. Every life touched with love can change. I never discriminate against children who come from Darülaceze; whether disabled or not, they are all my children. Perhaps one day I will turn all this into a book, but remember this: Every life you touch with love transforms.
