The main task in time management is for an individual to be able to manage their attention and set priorities for it. It is of great importance for one to learn how to manage time effectively. The pyramid of purpose and meaning, which determines one's life principles, will affect the individual's entire life. Therefore, at the top of the pyramid should be goals and existential purposes that will make one's life meaningful. The pyramids of importance, priority, and meaning-purpose mentioned for time management refer to a type of attention management. If an individual pays attention to these three points with the awareness of 'I will devote the most time to the most important issue,' 'I will first decide on the most prioritized issue,' and 'I will certainly consider meaning and purpose when making decisions,' they will have utilized all three pyramids. The main task in time management is to be able to manage attention and prioritize it. ## **They manage our attention without us realizing it…** Digital platforms today operate almost like persuasion laboratories. In a persuasion laboratory, attempts are made to change an individual's priorities. Now, our priorities, what we are interested in, what we watch, and what we listen to are tracked through our digital footprints. Keywords are identified and presented to us. They manage our attention without us realizing it. They virtually enslave and manage people with keywords. A person who realizes this cannot be manipulated. For this reason, we need to learn how to manage time effectively. ## **Impatience and haste are the enemies of wisdom** For the wise, time is a magical concept. Why is it a magical concept? To manage time well means knowing where to speed up and where to slow down. Impatience and haste are the greatest enemies of wisdom. In this regard, there is a wisdom lesson from Socrates: At the table of King Nikokreon of Cyprus, Socrates used to sit silently without speaking. When asked why he sat so quietly, the philosopher said: 'This is not the place for what I have to say; I also do not know what needs to be said here, so I remain silent.' ## **How you do it is important** In my book series titled 'Psychology of Wisdom,' I drew attention to important determinants that influence a person's decision-making process. When making a decision, one should ask themselves: 'How important is this to me?' and 'How much of a priority is this for me?' One of the fundamental rules of the Ottoman Civil Code (Mejelle) is: Procedure precedes substance. Procedure comes before substance in the pyramid of priority. There is a 60-day appeal period for administrative court decisions. If you go on the sixty-first day, you cannot seek your rights because you missed the deadline. You lose the case on procedural grounds. Therefore, the procedure, meaning how you do it, is as important as what you do. ## **The pyramid of purpose and meaning determines our life principles** The pyramid of purpose and meaning, which determines an individual's life principles, will affect their entire life. Therefore, at the very top of the pyramid should be goals and existential purposes that make one's life meaningful. ## **Existential purposes are at the highest level** In the 'Purpose-Meaning Pyramid,' the highest purpose is at the very top. What are a person's highest purposes? At the highest level are existential purposes: 'What kind of person do you want to be when you reach the end of your life? How do you want to be remembered, what kind of mark do you want to leave on life?' On the second level come abstract purposes, and on the third level, social-community purposes. ## **Those who place their ego ideal at the top live only for themselves** Some people place their personal interests at the top of the purpose pyramid. A person who does this unconsciously considers only their own benefit when making decisions. The priority is always themselves. If they are to buy something, they do not consider its impact on the family budget, nature, etc. People who shop aimlessly are generally like this; their financial literacy is not good. In the pyramid, the ego ideal comes in fourth place. If you place your ego ideal at the top, it means you are living only for yourself. ## **Capitalism places the ego ideal in first place** The choices in this ranking determine what kind of personality a person has. The ego ideal is sometimes concrete, sometimes abstract. Some see becoming rich or famous as a life purpose. It is important to strike a balance between concrete and abstract goals within the ego ideal. In the capitalist system, the highest value and purpose is money. The prayer of capitalism is also money. For this reason, capitalism elevates the ego ideal from fourth place to first place. ## **The pyramid of purpose should not be forgotten when making decisions** In the fifth level of the purpose pyramid are material goals and interests. In the sixth level are physical purposes such as eating, drinking, procreation, and sexuality.
