A healthy and radiant skin is possible in every season…
Experts emphasize that hot weather and rising humidity negatively affect the skin, but the secret to maintaining healthy and glowing skin throughout the year lies in choosing the right products and making sun protection a lifestyle habit.
Instructor Birgül Erbaş, Head of the Hair Care and Beauty Services Program, notes that going out in the sun without protection, wearing excessively heavy makeup, not drinking enough water, and sleeping without removing makeup all have a harmful impact on skin health. She says, “The secret to protecting our skin is to choose the right products, allow the skin to breathe with light makeup, and make sun protection a daily habit. In this way, it is possible to achieve both a healthy and radiant look.”
Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services, Hair Care and Beauty Services Program Head, Instructor Birgül Erbaş, issued important warnings for achieving healthy and radiant skin.
Heat and humidity affect skin health
Highlighting that the sun’s heat and increased humidity adversely affect the skin, Erbaş said: “Selecting the right products is crucial not only to protect our skin but also to maintain a well-groomed appearance. The most effective way to guard against the harmful effects of the sun’s rays in every season is to use sunscreen. Sunscreens containing at least SPF 30 and UVA-UVB filters should be reapplied regularly, and physical protectors such as hats and sunglasses should also be preferred.”
Use water-based moisturizers
Pointing out that hot weather increases the skin’s loss of moisture, Erbaş advised: “That’s why light, water-based moisturizers should be used. Products containing aloe vera and hyaluronic acid refresh the skin and lock in moisture. Regular moisturizing also reduces the formation of skin spots. One of the most common skin problems is sunspots. Antioxidant-rich serums, such as those containing vitamin C, help prevent spots from forming. For existing spots, treatment should be carried out with professional support.”
Do makeup without overburdening the skin
Drawing attention to the fact that, especially in hot months, the goal of makeup should be to achieve a natural glow without overburdening the skin, Erbaş explained: “Lightweight BB/CC creams or light foundations, waterproof mascaras and eyeliners, and lipsticks and blushes in natural tones can be preferred. To ensure makeup lasts in hot weather, look for products labeled ‘waterproof’ and ‘long-lasting.’ Waterproof makeup products should be removed with dual-phase or oil-based cleansers. Sleeping with makeup on is one of the most common mistakes, as it prevents the skin from breathing.”
We must make sun protection a habit
Reminding again that going out without sunscreen, applying heavy makeup, not drinking enough water, and not removing makeup before bed negatively affect skin health, Erbaş concluded: “The secret to protecting our skin is to choose the right products, let the skin breathe with light makeup, and make sun protection a habit. This way, it is possible to achieve both a healthy and radiant appearance.”
