A significant contribution to international literature from the Institute for Sufi Studies

The Üsküdar University Institute for Sufi Studies (TAE) and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University have jointly launched the international research project “Comprehensive Study of Sufism: Through Metaphysics, Literature, Music and Rituals.” The first book of the project, supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), has been published by Kyoto University under the title “Bridging Mystical Philosophy and Arts in Sufism: Poetry, Music and Samāʻ Ritual.” The publication has been recognized as a valuable contribution to international literature and a significant step forward in the field of Sufi studies.

The work added to international literature

The book “Bridging Mystical Philosophy and Arts in Sufism: Poetry, Music and Samāʻ Ritual” presents the findings of the first four years of the project. It offers an in-depth examination of the philosophical, literary, musical, and ritual dimensions of Sufism, particularly through comprehensive field studies on the Mevlevi tradition.

Renowned scholars contributed to the book

The editors of the volume include Prof. Yasushi Tonaga (Kyoto University), Prof. Masayuki Akahori (Sofia University), Dr Manami Suzuki (Kyoto University), Dr. Cangüzel Güner Zülfikar, Prof. Emine Yeniterzi, and Prof. Reşat Öngören (Üsküdar University).
