In the spring semester of the 2024–2025 academic year, the Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Üsküdar University successfully held its graduation project presentations. Having produced its first graduates in 2022, the Department of History once again organized a presentation program for fourth-year students to showcase their graduation projects, as it has done every year. The traditional event provided students with the opportunity to gain both academic and scientific presentation skills. The presentations also highlighted the importance of the course “Historical Research Project and Management.”

The academic advisors for the graduation projects included Assoc. Prof. Hadiye Yılmaz Odabaşı, Head of the Department of History; Asst. Prof. Uygar Aydemir; Asst. Prof. Özgün Deniz Yoldaşlar; Research Assistant Dr. Buğra Can Bayçifci; and Research Assistant Salih Bilgin.

Graduation projects carried out under the guidance of faculty advisors focused on prominent themes such as early modern Ottoman-European relations, debates on the military revolution, urban transformation, modernization, and gender. Covering a wide range of topics from Ottoman political and social history to contemporary historiographical debates, the projects drew attention with their effective use of sources, analytical strength, and original approaches. Following the presentations, faculty members and fellow students provided constructive evaluations and suggestions regarding the projects.

Emphasis on the course “Historical Research Project and Management”

Unlike previous years, this year also featured project proposals presented by third-year students as part of the “Historical Research Project and Management” course. Specifically designed with the goal of applying to the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program, the course holds the distinction of being the first of its kind offered not only in the Department of History but also across Üsküdar University for this particular purpose.

Through this course, students gained skills in developing research questions, academic writing, literature review, and project planning, and had the opportunity to prepare their own research projects in accordance with the TÜBİTAK application format. Students preparing to apply for the call scheduled for the fall of 2025 have already benefited from having refined their projects in advance.

In alignment with Üsküdar University’s project-oriented vision, the presentation events continue to function as an academic platform aimed at improving students’ research, analytical, and communication skills.
