Prof. Sırrı Akbaba Delivered a Seminar on “Values Education”
Prof. Sırrı Akbaba, Advisor to the Rector of Üsküdar University and Faculty Member in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, delivered a seminar titled “Values Education” as part of the Family School Education Program organized by the Şile District Directorate of National Education. Prof. Akbaba came together with branch managers, school principals, teachers, and parents during the seminar.
Held at the Şile District Governorate Conference Hall, the seminar attracted significant attention and participation.
The event was organized within the framework of the "Year of the Family"
The seminar, conducted under the theme of “Values Education”, was part of the activities marking 2025 as the “Year of the Family”. In his presentation, Prof. Akbaba explored concepts such as affection, love, compassion, mercy, and devotion.
Highlighting the role of love within the family, Akbaba stated that “Perhaps the most important function of the family institution is to create a world of love-centered relationships.” During the seminar, Akbaba also shared examples from Turkish-Islamic thinkers, referencing Yunus Emre’s famous line “Let us love and be loved, for this world shall not remain for anyone”, as well as the wisdom of Yusuf Has Hacip from his renowned work Kutadgu Bilig.
Emphasis on the Five Characteristics of a Virtuous Person
Akbaba noted that according to Yusuf Has Hacip, a truly virtuous person possesses five core traits: self-sacrifice, nobility, wisdom, intelligence, and courage.
A Token of Appreciation
At the conclusion of the seminar, Şile District Director of National Education Dursun Teyran presented a bouquet of flowers to Prof. Akbaba in appreciation of his valuable contributions.
The Importance of Age-Appropriate Communication
In addition to the Şile seminar, Prof. Akbaba also participated in the “Family School” program organized by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, where he met with members of the Maarif family (education community).
There, Prof. Sırrı Akbaba shared insights on the topic of “Age-Appropriate Communication”.
