Science Communication Coordinatorship Established at Üsküdar University
Üsküdar University has established the Science Communication Coordinatorship to make scientific developments accessible to all segments of society. The Coordinatorship aims to explain scientific advancements in a way that everyone can understand, raise scientific awareness, and share the university’s academic knowledge with broader audiences. This initiative aligns with the Council of Higher Education’s (YÖK) national campaign under the umbrella of “Bilim Vatan” (Science is Homeland), which encourages universities across Türkiye to establish science communication coordinatorships.

Prof. Nazife Güngör: “It is not enough to confine science to academic publications”
Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör commented on the establishment of the new coordinatorship stated that “It is not sufficient to keep science within laboratories or academic journals. Universities must play a more active role in strengthening the bond between science and society. Our Science Communication Coordinatorship offers a modern and powerful response to this need.”

Assoc. Prof. Cihan Becan: “We want to make science accessible to everyone”
Assoc. Prof. Cihan Becan, Faculty Member in the Department of Advertising at Üsküdar University and Head of the Science Communication Coordinatorship, emphasized the coordinatorship’s purpose and stated that “Our goal is not only to explain science, but also to spark curiosity, encourage thinking, and inspire others. We want to make science accessible to everyone—because we believe science grows as it is communicated and deepens as it is shared.”

The main activities of the Coordinatorship of Science Communication include;
- Announcing the researches and projects carried out within the university to the public,
- Making scientific information visible in traditional and digital channels through media collaborations,
- Developing the science communication competencies of students and academicians.
The Science Communication Coordinatorship, which was established in line with the mission of Üsküdar University on the axis of "human, society and science", invites everyone who believes that science is not only a field of expertise but also the basic building block of social development to bring science together.
