Seminar on Accreditation and Quality Management in Higher Education Held

A seminar titled “Accreditation and Quality Management in Higher Education” was organized by the Institute for Sufi Studies at Üsküdar University. The seminar featured guest speaker Instructor Ayşe Hande Erol Bingüler from Marmara University. Erol Bingüler addressed topics such as quality assurance processes, the importance of student participation, and assessment and evaluation methods. The event also included an informative session about the Higher Education Quality Council of Türkiye (YÖKAK) Student Commission, and discussed Üsküdar University’s efforts to promote a culture of quality.

The seminar took place in classroom B-1-13 of Block A at the South Campus of Üsküdar University and was attended by Prof. Elif Erhan, Director of the Institute for Sufi Studies, as well as academic and administrative staff of the institute and students.

During the event, Instructor Ayşe Hande Erol Bingüler discussed the concept of quality, quality assurance processes in higher education, and the significance of student involvement. The second part of the program is scheduled to be held on June 30.

Student participation emphasized in the quality assurance system

The seminar highlighted the importance of systematically collecting and effectively utilizing student feedback and opinions about courses and teaching staff. It was underlined that considering student complaints and suggestions is an integral part of quality processes. It was also emphasized that the assessment and evaluation methods employed should be both valid and reliable.

Message: “Get to know your own university”

Instructor Ayşe Hande Erol Bingüler encouraged participants to “Get to know your own university,” emphasizing the importance of understanding and internalizing quality assurance systems within higher education institutions. She pointed out that publicly sharing the quality assurance efforts carried out at Üsküdar University is a significant step in terms of transparency and institutional development.

Introduction to the YÖKAK Student Commission

The seminar also included an introduction to the Student Commission of the Higher Education Quality Council of Türkiye (YÖKAK). The commission encourages students to participate actively in quality assurance activities and leads student-involved projects at both national and international levels. The process also includes nominating student reviewers who will take part in YÖKAK evaluation teams.

Üsküdar University is expanding its culture of quality

At the conclusion of the seminar, the importance Üsküdar University places on quality was emphasized. It was noted that the seminars and training sessions organized within the university contribute to spreading a culture of quality among students.
