The professions of the future are shaped by digitalization and artificial intelligence!
Referring to the data from the 2025 World Economic Forum, Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör stated that the professions of the future are being shaped around digitalization and artificial intelligence. She said, “In this process, some professions or forms of work will completely disappear, while others will rise in prominence, and entirely new professions and work models will emerge. Engineering fields focused on artificial intelligence will come to the forefront.”
Prof. Nazife Güngör also emphasized that big data expertise will occupy a central place among the professions of the future, saying, “Since the operation of artificial intelligence functions entirely through data, data expertise is on its way to becoming the star profession of the future. Fields such as software, computer science, and cybersecurity are also rapidly gaining importance.”

The professions of the future are being shaped around digitalization and artificial intelligence
Pointing to the data presented at the 2025 World Economic Forum, Prof. Nazife Güngör stated, “According to the data in question, the professions of the future are being shaped around digitalization and artificial intelligence. In this process, some professions or work models may entirely disappear, while others will gain prominence and entirely new professions and work forms will arise. The data from the World Economic Forum indicates that engineering fields focused on artificial intelligence will shine.”
Big Data expertise will take center stage among the professions of the future
Highlighting that big data expertise will take a central position among the professions of the future, Prof. Nazife Güngör said, “This process has already begun. Data has become the most important capital of today’s society. Since the functioning of artificial intelligence depends entirely on data, data expertise is on its way to becoming the star of the future. This data-centered trend within the axis of digitalization is also creating an environment in which fields such as software, computer science, and cybersecurity rapidly gain prominence.”
Professions such as banking, accounting, and cashiering will fundamentally change
Prof. Nazife Güngör stated that the automation process is rapidly progressing toward the future with a focus on artificial intelligence. She continued, “In connection with this, it is clear that the nature of work and working methods in the banking sector will undergo significant changes. Similarly, we can foresee major transformations in professions such as finance, accounting, and cashiering. In fact, we are already witnessing the rapid spread of computer-based payment systems in today’s markets. At this pace, within the next five years, it seems highly likely that the job of cashiering will largely be taken over by machines.”
Artificial intelligence is also at work in recruitment processes
Prof. Nazife Güngör noted that with the introduction of digitalization and artificial intelligence technologies, work and operations in the field of human resources are also becoming increasingly automated. She said, “Today, we see that artificial intelligence is mostly being used in recruitment processes in Western countries. Similar applications have started in some major companies in Türkiye. Therefore, we are moving toward a future in which digital technologies, and especially artificial intelligence, will be actively used in almost all areas of society and working life.”
Fields of agricultural and food engineering are becoming attractive again
Drawing attention to the fact that the rapid advancement of technology and its influence on every aspect of life also brings along certain serious problems, Prof. Nazife Güngör continued her remarks as follows:
“Environmental pollution, the threat to nature, global warming, and the chemically focused food industry are dragging the world and humanity into a serious danger. Fortunately, as the danger increases, so does awareness. This reveals the necessity for humanity to initiate a process of recovery. In this regard, strategies such as the development and implementation of eco-friendly technologies, the growth of the organic food industry, and the planning of environmentally friendly cities and settlements have begun to be developed. Accordingly, we are witnessing a renewed appreciation for farming and agriculture. Therefore, the fields of agricultural and food engineering are becoming attractive once again.”
Philosophy and literature departments at universities no longer draw interest
On the other hand, emphasizing that the dominance of technology and its overwhelming presence in all areas of life are causing professional fields related to intellectual and artistic creativity to gradually lose momentum, Prof. Nazife Güngör continued her remarks as follows:
“I believe the real danger lies here. The simplification of tasks, doing more work in less time, and increased efficiency in the business and working world are undoubtedly positive developments. However, this process of mechanization seems likely to negatively affect the emotional and spiritual development of individuals. Expecting people who are increasingly detached from nature, isolated in the technologically enclosed environment of urban life, and alienated from themselves to build a humane future is in vain.
Every era undoubtedly produces its own cultural forms and develops its own lifestyle. Each period in human history has revealed its own unique human, social, and cultural character. However, never in any period has humanity been so estranged from itself or so captivated by the allure of the material world. There are significant indicators of this on both micro and macro levels. In recent years, if philosophy and literature departments at universities are no longer drawing interest, there is no need to search for another reason behind it. Likewise, if countries and states are allocating most of their resources to defense and armament, again there is no need to search for another reason. If our surroundings are filled with blood and tears, there is no need to look any further. Supposedly, humanity has left behind the age of barbarism and entered an era of civilization. But nothing has changed. The rules of the game remain the same; only the tools have changed. Moreover, the problem is deepening. People are trying to construct their own existence by eliminating others. The debate around the motto ‘to be or not to be’ has long been abandoned. Now the issue is ‘to survive or to perish.’”
Precautions must be taken to prevent technology from ruling us
Noting that we must, at the same time, keep pace with the direction the world is heading, Prof. Nazife Güngör said, “Let us train ourselves in new professional fields alongside technological advancements. Educational institutions must revise their curricula in accordance with new developments and the needs of the future. However, on the other hand, we must also reflect on what we need to do to avoid surrendering superiority to machines in the face of all these technological developments. We must take the necessary precautions to prevent the technology we ourselves have created from ruling over us. Since this planet we live on is composed of human beings, then all kinds of construction must also be carried out by human beings. To build a world that is worthy of humanity, human beings must choose to remain human. For this, we must develop in technology, but we must not abandon art, literature, or philosophy. Therefore, we must not forsake ourselves or our humanity,” she concluded.
