Üsküdar University has achieved a significant success in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings announced by Times Higher Education (THE), the international higher education evaluation institution. Ranked in the 251–300 band (Q1) among 1267 universities worldwide, Üsküdar University is among the top four foundation universities in Türkiye.

Üsküdar University has once again demonstrated its strength in interdisciplinary studies through its strong performance in the rankings released by Times Higher Education (THE). Positioned in the 251–300 band among 1267 universities globally, the university ranked fourth among foundation universities in Türkiye.

Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Vice Rector of Üsküdar University, shared an evaluation regarding the university’s success in interdisciplinary work and announced this important international achievement.

Prof. Ergüzel stated that “Since the founding of our university, the communication between academic units has been structured and maintained in a healthy way, supported by the Working Groups that academically enrich this structure. Our interdisciplinary studies in the fields of neuroscience, engineering and psychology have shown remarkable development in recent years.”

Highlighting the global recognition of these efforts, Prof. Ergüzel emphasized that Üsküdar University has achieved an important success within the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings. Prof. Ergüzel made the following remarks:

“According to the results of the THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, for which we submitted our application supported by data on our university’s interdisciplinary capacity, we ranked in the 251–300 band among 1267 universities worldwide. In Türkiye, we are in fourth place among foundation universities. We share this fourth place with three other foundation universities.”

Expressing gratitude to all academics who contributed to the process, Prof. Ergüzel added: “I offer my gratitude to Prof. Nevzat Tarhan for his insight, support, guidance and oversight in our international ranking processes, and to all our esteemed colleagues who have contributed to interdisciplinary studies.”

Evaluated under three main categories

The announcement also provided information about the methodology of the ranking. THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings evaluate universities based on their interdisciplinary research capacity under three main categories:

The methodology is summarized under three headings:

Inputs (19%): Measures the resources institutions allocate to interdisciplinary research and their capacity to attract external funding.

Process Management (16%): Evaluates how institutions support research through elements such as infrastructure, administrative support and promotion policies.

Outputs (65%): Measures the quantity, quality, impact level and global reputation of interdisciplinary publications, making it the most decisive part of the ranking. This three-part structure provides a holistic evaluation of resources, processes, and concrete research outputs.
